Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wat Phou and discover the ruins of an ancient Khmer temple
Join us on a cruise down the Mekong River to explore the ancient temple of Wat Phou. We will travel down the Mekong River on a longtail boat to explore the ancient Khmer temple complex, dating back to the 5th Century CE. Along the way we will learn about local life and how it relies on the Mekong River.

What Will You Do
We leave Pakse on a long tail boat and start making our way down the Mekong River. Along the way our guide will explain the importance of the Mekong to the local people who depend on it for fishing, farming and transport. On the way we stop to visit a small temple, overlooking the Mekong. We continue, watching local life along the Mekong River before we have lunch at Champassak. After lunch, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wat Phou. We will spend some time here exploring the ancient temple, learning about the Khmer Empire and the different religions that have impacted this area. We then return to Pakse in a private minivan and will arrive in the late afternoon.
Approximately 2 hours boating, 1 hour driving, and 2 hours sightseeing
What to expect:
This is a sightseeing tour and does not require a high level of fitness. However you will be outside for many hours and will need to walk on some uneven surfaces while at Wat Phou.
