What Will You Do
Day 1: Trekking Phou Khao Khouay
We leave Vientiane and travel to a small village on the edge of the national park. After exploring the village, we will spend some time with locals and enjoy a lovely traditional bamboo basket weaving session, where you will be able to create your own handicrafts. We then trek through an evergreen forest, slowly gaining elevation as we push deeper into the jungle.
Eventually we reach the scenic waterfalls of Tad Xay and Pha Xay, particularly beautiful during or just after the rainy season when they are in full flow, where we will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. We have some free time at Tad Xay which has a great pool for bathing or swimming.
We then travel in a Green Discovery vehicle back to the village where we started. Here we will spend the night in a rustic village accommodation as guests of the local community. That will give us a great opportunity to learn more about local life and customs and interact with villagers.
Approximately: 2 hours transfer, 3 hours trekking
Day 2: Exploring the jungle waterfalls
After breakfast we will travel to the Tad Leuk Waterfall. We will spend some time here exploring this waterfall and the small visitor centre. We will have lunch at Tad Leuk before trekking along a path following the Nam Leuk River.
Along the way we may be able to spot a number of different orchids, especially during the rainy season. We follow the track upstream to the Tad Sang (Elephant Waterfall). There is another idyllic swimming hole under the waterfall and we will take some time to relax and enjoy it. We trek back to Tad Leuk where we must wade across a
shallow part of the river to reach our waiting transport. We then travel back to Vientiane to finish our adventure.
Approximately: 3 hours transfer, 2.5 hours trekking
What to expect
Washing and bathing facilities in the village are very basic. Expect rustic accommodation. Expect the hikes to last for many hours. Most groups spend about 3 hours hiking on the first day and 2.5 hours hiking on the second day. Specially in dry season, the weather may be hot.

Help us to become 100% single use plastic free company!
We try to avoid plastic as much as possible, that is why we encourage you to bring your own refillable bottle.
We have water refillable station at our office where you can fill up your bottle. If you don’t have one we sell the 0,75 L Green Discovery aluminium bottles at our sales office. At the moment we will still need to use plastic bottles in some of our tours but we hope to reduce it as much as possible. Together with The Green Discovery Sustainability Fund we are working on installing water filters in all the villages we are visiting and we hope in the future we will not need to use plastic bottles anymore.
