Main info
Highlights
Explore one of Lao’s first national protected areas and learn about the rich biodiversity that makes this area unique
Explore authentic villages of different ethnic minorities that make up Northern Laos and discover the warmth and hospitality of rural life.
Our favourite trek in the Nam Ha National Park. Explore the ancient forest, meet the villagers, and cross the river in your discovery of the national park. This great trip takes us through different remote villages, many of which can only be reached on foot. We spend the night in one of these villages and experience first hand the warmth and hospitality of rural life.
What Will You Do
Day 1: The Nam Ha Riverbanks and Villages
We start our adventure in a Khmu village and follow a trail leading us up to a ridge. We continue along the trail which passes through forest and upland rice fields. Along the way our guide will explain how Green Discovery is working together with the local villagers to protect and regenerate the forest. As we continue along the trail we will meet local villagers coming and going to market before descending down to the banks of the Nam Ha River. Here we will arrive at the village that will host us for the evening. Our guide will introduce you to the villagers and explain what life is like in the village before sharing a hearty traditional meal prepared by our our hosts.
Approximately: 30minutes transfer & 5 to 6 hours trekking
Day 2: Nam Ha NPA explorer
After breakfast we head off through the forest along the banks of the Nam Ha River. If we walk quietly and luck is on our side we may catch a glimpse of the deer and monkeys that live in this part of the forest. We continue trekking until lunchtime where we meet with the villagers in the forest and enjoy a picnic together. After lunch we cross the Nam Ha River to enter the Nam Ha National Protected Area. The trail follows a stream through the dense jungle and if we are lucky, we may even see some of the animals that live in the NPA. As we continue walking the forest opens up and our path leads us through rice paddies before reaching the banks of the Nam Tha River, which we cross in a traditional wooden canoe before we return to Luang Namtha.
Approximately: 5 to 6 hours trekking and 1 hour transfer
What to expect:
Expect full days of hiking up and down hill on uneven paths. Accommodation in the village is quite rustic with washing facilities that are very basic and not very private. We can not guarantee that we will see wildlife on this tour.

At the moment we will still need to use plastic bottles in some of our tours but we hope to reduce it as much as possible.
