What Will You Do
We depart from Luang Prabang heading north to a Khmu village where we will have a short introduction to paddling and a safety briefing. When everyone is feeling confident we head off downstream where there are some small rapids.
Along our way down the Nam Ou River, we can see beautiful cliffs and authentic villages. We carry on downstream until we stop for a lao style picnic lunch at an incredible location, a beautiful white sandbank set amongst some amazing surroundings!
After lunch and a relaxing swim we carry onwards once again. The afternoon is spent paddling in a calmer section of the Nam Ou and on the Mekong River. Along the way, there is plenty of time to watch the villagers fishing and harvesting river weed which they dry out, season and fry to make a tasty snack! We stop to explore the famous Pak Ou (Buddha) Caves and discover the thousands of Buddha statues, one of the most sacred and significant sights in the Luang Prabang area. We continue paddling to a small village, famous for weaving and Lao whisky making. From here we will return to Luang Prabang by private local truck.
(If we are ahead of schedule and we still have enough energy to paddle, we can continue paddling for another 30 minutes along the Mekong)
What to expect:
Expect a full day of kayaking with some small rapids. You should be able to swim 50m unassisted to be able to join.
