For those who are looking for an exciting alternative to mere road travel between Vientiane and Vang Vieng, this trip offers a good adventure on one of the most scenic rivers in northern Laos!

Itinerary: Vientiane/Vang Vieng – Hin Heup – Ban Vang Mon – Vang Vieng/ Vientiane
Our trip starts from either Vientiane or Vang Vieng. After a ride by public Songthaew, we arrive in the town of Hin Heup. We will meet other people at a local shop with a ‘Kayaking Meeting Point’ sign board. The kayaking trip begins where Route 13 crosses the Nam Lik over an old iron bridge.

After some basic paddle instruction and practice, our experienced river guides take the kayakers through the first fun rapids (grade 1-2, suitable for beginners; they may be stronger in the rainy season, up to grade 3).
A Lao style picnic on banana leaves is served and there is time to relax. For the more energetic, swimming in the river is possible - always under the supervision of our guides.

The afternoon is spent in calmer waters, where the local fishermen are at work. More paddling takes us to a stunning steep gorge, which provides perfect platforms for cliff jumping into the cool and deep river.

The day ends at the Tai Dam Village of Ban Vang Mon in the dry season (at the Lao Loum Village of Ban That in the wet season), where a pick-up awaits us for transfer to Vang Vieng or Vientiane.

Approximately: 3 hours transfer/ 4 hours kayaking
