You depart Vientaine after breakfast. Today’s ride is the easiest ride to get you acquainted with riding in Laos. Lunch will be lakeside at Nam Ngum and you can take a walk through a local market. The first day ride will end up in Vang Vieng, a scenic area with scenic limestone landscape and caves. Stunning at any hour, the mountains are of course particularly beautiful with the golden pink glow of sunset behind them... the perfect time to sit and have a drink in one of the riverside restaurants.
We’ll stay overnight at Bansbai River Side Bungalow, traditional styles bungalows setting on the NamSong River overlooking limestone mountains.

A hilly ride awaits today! Today we twist and turn up the sides of hills with many excellent viewpoints along the way. A lunch stop in Phou Khoun at a local restaurant and then more pure motorcycle turns on the highway. We arrive in Luang Prabang before sunset and a cold drink along the Mekong completes today.
You should not miss the night market in Luang Prabang. Local people including minority people gather to sell and buy. A large selection of handicraft is an highlight.

We spend time to explore Luang Prbang. We ride along the Mekong and a short boat ride takes us to the holy Pak Ou Cave. Lunch break is made nearby the cave before we continue to Kuang Si Waterfall. Crystal clear pool invites us to swim. We have plenty of time to take a walk in a forested surrounding and make sure that you’ll visit Phet, the orphaned tiger, and a young bears living just by the entrance gate.
We return to Luang Prabang for the last night stay in the Ancient City of Laos.

Time for a little off road and go deeper to an area where were the most impacted area in Laos by Indochina War. We leave Luang Prabang and start in on a compacted dirt road that winds along a river. It gets steep and the views are fantastic. A simple lunch along the way keeps us going and dinner in Vieng Thong awaits.
The road gets more interesting after Pak Xeng: small and steep dirt road leading through beautiful rainforest. We will then arrive at Vieng Thong and leave our bikes in the Guesthouse and make our way for a 15-minute walk to the hot spring for a shower to wash out the dirt from the trail and a welcome and relaxing soak.

It will be an exciting ride today! We head Sam Nuea for lunch and drop off our luggage at a guesthouse. We then go toward Vietnam border to Viengxay caves for a scenic ride. The caves are known as Hidden City, bomb shelters during Indochina War. The caves have recently been open to public. We are among very first visitors to The Caves City. We return to Sam Neua for overnight.
The journey from Sam Nuea is possibly one of the most picturesque in Laos, passing rice terraces, pagodas, charcoal and copper-coloured karst formations, misty mountain peaks emerging from dense jungle. Sam Nuea is the small capital of Hua Phan Province, set against a backdrop of picturesque mountains, forested hills and rice fields. It is a staging post for the road to Vieng Xay caves. The original town was obliterated by US bombing.

After breakfast, we ride along isolated mountain areas and today’s destination is the Plain of Jars. This area is still heavily mined and remnants of the Indochina war can still be seen even though it ended long time ago.
There are 2 interesting place to stop today. Hin Tang (Standing Stone) is an archeological site which remains its secret of unknown story. Some people believe that the sites somehow relates to the Plain of Jars. Our second stop is made at Saleuy weaving village, where you may find a nice handicraft for souvenir.
We arrive to Phonsavan in late afternoon. We may have just enough time to explore Site 1 of Plain of Jars and back to Phonsavan before dark.

An early departure will be needed. The tough ride is taking you through remote areas and forest where villagers still live with very minor impact by modernization. River crossing by bamboo raft is expected especially in wet season. A good fun! It’s hard to find a place to eat. A simple lunch with sticky rice and laap will keep your fuel right.
It’s a rugged ride and the night in Paksan Hotel will refresh you along with dinner along the river. Paksan is former road stop in the journey from Vientiane to Thakhek overlooking the Mekong.

Today we follow the road No 13. The ride is flat and comfortable on a well-paved road. We have a little off road to the Tad Xay Waterfall, a local tourist attraction amidst mixed deciduous forest located inside Phou Khao Khuay National Park. It is an idyllic place for bathing and relaxation before we return to the road No 13 for the journey back to Vientiane.
We arrive in Vientiane after 8 days rides with such different experiences of Laos people living in harmony with a peaceful country and stunning landscapes anywhere.
