During these 2 days of trekking you will experience the Tad Fane waterfall and Dong Hua Sao National Protected Area (NPA). Tad Fane is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Laos, with parallel arms of the Houay Bang Lieng River plunging out of dense forest 120 meters down . Tat Fane is at the edge of the 1100-sq-km Dong Hua Sao NPA where the trekking trails are the best and perhaps the only way to get into the park. Dong Hua Sao was once home to a healthy population of tigers, though you are more likely to see monkeys, gigantic butterflies and in the wet season, dozens of great hornbills who like to hang out at the bottom of the falls.

Itinerary:

Day 1
Departure from Green Discovery Laos, Pakse office, at 8:30 pm, we drive pass local tea and coffee plantations along the Bolaven Plateau. We stop to view Tad Fan waterfall situated at the edge of Dong Hua Sao protected area. Next, we drive 20 km to Ban Nong Luang where we meet our local guide, who will tell you about the animals and traditional medicine. We walk through coffee farms and mixed bamboo and jungle forests. Lunch is served at a small waterfall. After lunch we continue walking to Tad Taget waterfall about 1½ hours. We walk down the mountain for about 40 minutes to where we set up camp for the night. Rest and enjoy a cool swim in this beautiful spot.

Approximately: Trekking 4 to 4½ hours/ transfer 1½ hours

Day 2:
After breakfast we trek uphill through the National Protected Area (NPA) of Dong Hua Sao. This NPA shares its southern border with Vietnam and Cambodia. You will hear numerous birds singing or calling all along the way and if you are lucky you will spot some monkeys. We stop for lunch at the Tad Kamue waterfall. After lunch we trek for about 1½ hours to the Danh Ngai limestone cliffs and enjoy a view of Champassak Province. We return to Ban Nong Luang on a different trail taking us about 1½ hours and get onto the vehicle to Pakse where we arrive at about 5:30 pm.
