Bolaven Plateau

(1 day trek, all season or 2 day trek, dry season)
Bolaven Plateau

The landscape of the Bolaven Plateau with its spectacular waterfalls is breathtaking. Its cool climate and fertile soils are ideal for high grade coffee cultivation. Other important agricultural products include fruit, cardamom and rattan. In contrast to the idyll today, we have to be aware that the plateau has been one of the most heavily bombed areas in Laos during the Second Indochina War not so long time ago. Tad Yeaung Waterfall

Itinerary:
Day 1: Pakse - Tad Fane - Tad Yeaung Waterfall - Ban Km 40

We depart from Pakse and drive for about 50 minutes to the starting point of our trek. From here, we walk through coffee and tea plantations to the Dong Hua Sao National Protected Area. There are two routes to take, depending on the annual season in Laos.

*During the wet season from June to October, the tour will not pass Houay Tad Fane (top of this waterfall) because of danger of strong currents. We will walk pass another Bolaven Plateau coffee farm through a timber forest, and then to Tad Yeaung Waterfall (swimming is allowed). We stop for some fun and lunch at the base of the Tad Yeaung Waterfall. After lunch we continue trekking around the vicinity of the waterfall. Another four hours walk takes us to Ban Km 40 to spend at a night at a village home-stay.

*During the dry season from November to May, it is a great time to trek to the Tad Fane waterfall over the top to see its beauty and charm. The trek leads through thick and dense forest where we can see animals such as Nok Hua Quan and other kinds of bird. If we are lucky, monkeys will appear. With some effort to spot them, many types of orchids canl be seen. We have lunch in the forest. Stroll along to Tad Yeaung Waterfall; enjoy a dip in the waterfall pool before we continue trekking to the village at Ban Km 38 to spend the night. The residents in this village are Lowland Lao and Khmu. Their main profession is growing coffee and other kinds of farming. Tad Yeaung Waterfall

End of 1 day tour: The trip ends at Ban Km 40 in the wet season or at Ban Km 38 in the dry season, from where we return to Pakse (Approximately: 1½ hours transfer)

Day 2: Ban 40 KM – Champi Waterfall - Kachep Waterfall - Ban 38 KM – Pakse
After breakfast and tasting local Lao coffee, we start walking pass the coffee farms. We’ll see workers picking coffee beans at their own farms. We then walk to Champi Waterfall, enjoy natural surrounding at the Sung Sin Xai plain of limestone and have lunch here. The clumps of rocks resemble animation characters. The last portion of the trek is to Kachep Waterfall. We finish our tour at Ban Km 38, from where we return to Pakse.
