Phou Khong Mountain Experience

Phou Khong Mountain overlooks Laos and Thailand territories. The landscape is characterized by unusual rocky cropping up rocks. The area is known for its one-of-a-kind orchid species. There are general interesting cultural, natural and religious sites on the Phou Khong. It is a moderate 4 hours hike.
Ban Mai Singsamphan located on the Mekong River, north of Pakse, a Lao Loum trading and fishing village is regularly visited by Thai tourists, on weekends, who are purchasing local Lao products. Ban Mai is secluded and the boat ride to the village covers a very beautiful and undeveloped stretch of the Mekong. Home stay in local families with in-door bathrooms is organized. The food consists of local fish dishes in traditional Lao style.Phou Kong

Itinerary:
Day 1: Pakse – Ban Singsamphan

Depart from Pakse, we travel by local transport toward north. We then take a 1.5 hour boat ride on this undeveloped stretch of the Mekong. We arrive at Ban Mai Singsamphan Village in the afternoon. We take a walk around the village and to nearby forest and beach, watch the sunset from this peaceful, remote location, enjoy Mekong fish for dinner with villagers. We spend the night at the eco-lodge in the village

Approximately: 2 hours trekking/ 1.5 hour boat trip/ 40 minutes transfer

Day 2: Ban Singsamphan – Don Ko Island
We wake up for an early breakfast, then ready to take a short boat to the starting point to hike through Phou Khong Mountain with local guides, exploring its rich flora and landscape, including orchids, wild mushrooms, one of a kind rock outcroppings, dense forests, archeological remains of a former civilization, and sweeping views of Thailand/Laos. We’ll enjoy local style picnic at the end of the hike with village hosts before returning to the village.

From here, we continue 2 hours down the Mekong to Don Ko Island, the original location of French Colonial Administration in Champassak. We spend the night at the eco-lodge in the village.

End of 2 day tour: We return to Pakse from Ban Singsamphan (Approximately: boat 20 minutes/ 40 minutes transfer)

Day 3: Don Ko Island – Pakse
Following breakfast, we’ll visit a weaving village in the island. After lunch, we cross the river to Ban Saphai and take the tuk tuk back to Pakse in the afternoon.

Hat, sun block, clothes/shoes to get wet, warm change of clothes for evening, sandals for village, good shoes for hiking, sarong for bathing (required for women), mosquito repellent, flashlight, camera, money to purchase handicrafts; life jackets for those who cannot swim in case of emergency
