Ban Nam Yang Trek in the NPA

(1 day trek, all seasons)
Ban Nam yang

This one-day tour into the Nam Ha NPA winds through forest and upland fields. This tour has broad open vistas of the area. Along the way you will see villagers collecting forest products, tending livestock or working their upland fields. Before returning to the valley, the tour visits an Akha village at the highest point. If there’s time, the tour also includes a stop at That Poum Pouk, Luang Namtha’s most ancient and newest Stupa.

Nam Ha NPAItinerary: Luang Nam Tha – Ban Nam Yang – Ban Nam Ngaen – Luang Nam Tha
An early transfer of 40 minutes will take us to Ban Nam Yang. We follow the forest trail to Muang Sing. This is an easy trek through forest and upland fields to the highest point of the trek, where there is an Akha resting place. The road is wide, gains gradually in elevation. We reach to the top of the mountain where we stop for picnic lunch and enjoy wide views of surrounding hills and high mountains.

After lunch, we come downhill to a stream where we may see animal foot print. The trip is 6 – 7 hours long. You will walk along the road which is really more a track up to the Akha village of Nam Yang where you will have a chance to learn a bit about the life of the Akha in the hills. An Akha hunter will accompany you and display his bird calling skills. We return the same way back and have time to visit to the Black Tai village of Nam Ngaen where villagers make Lao Whisky. If there is time, we will visit That Poum Pouk.

Approximately: 2 hour 20 minutes transfer/ 3 and 1/2 - 4 hours trekkingNam Ha NPA

Note: In dry season, we use Songthew for transfer. In wet season, we use 4WD.

Green Discovery recognizes that the welfare of our business depends on the welfare of the people, communities and environment around us. It is for that reason that we take extra effort to ensure that benefits from our trips are distributed broadly. Each trip is a bit different but all trips benefit the local economy and contribute to protecting the environment. The guides, drivers, the food and most of the villagers benefit from your presence. Most notably you’ll see that every village we visit not only receives some of the money that you paid for the tour, they also are active business partners in the tour. We also pay $2 per day per person to the National Protected Area and set aside 10% of the above expenses for training of guides, villagers and development of more community-based tourism programs.
