The day of paddling takes us through the thick, in parts old-growth forest of the Nam Ha NPA. A picnic lunch and a refreshing swim mark mid-day. We arrive in the village in the afternoon and take sometimes to look around the village and visit with the inhabitants. In order to distribute the benefit between villagers, trips alternate overnight stays between the lodges of Ban Nam Goy and Ban Nalan Tai (Khmu,) Ban Nam Goy (Lanten). That evening enjoy a typical village dinner cooked over an open fire
Approximately: 1 hour transfer/ 5 hours kayaking
After a leisurely breakfast continue down river. The section of the river will reveal the best forest views and the most exciting rapids of the trip. Arriving at the confluence of the Nam Tha River paddle down the Nam Tha for a way before arriving at the Khmu village of Ban Sop Sim where your transport back to Luang Namtha will be waiting you. The optional return by river is in a traditional motor boat operated by area villagers. On your way up the river you will may see water birds along the banks of the river and make your last pass along the border of the Nam Ha Protected Area. If you’ve chosen to return by pick-up truck, the road may be a bit bumpy and dusty.
Approximately: 5 hours kayaking/1 hour transfer
Note:
• Nam Ha is best for rafting from July to November, for kayaking from July to December. Low water levels from January – June may make kayaking rocky.
• Return by boat may not be possible from March- June and a return by pick-up may not be possible July – September.
