This tour is just the tour for those who want a pleasant day paddling and exploring villages along the banks of the Nam Tha River. Wild life can be seen while paddling

Itinerary: Luang Namtha - Ban Sope Dute - Ban Sop Sim Noy - Luang Namtha
The day begins with some basic paddle instruction and equipment familiarization before taking to the river in single or double kayaks. The Nam Tha meanders through changing forest types, inhabited by animals, such as sun bear, tiger and barking deer and a great variety of birds. The border of the Nam Ha Protected Area is reached in the Lanten village of Ban Sope Dute. Various sets of exciting but safe rapids lead up to a lunch break on the riverside.

After a typical Lao picnic, there is time for relaxation and a refreshing swim. The next paddling stretch takes the group to the Khmu village of Ban Sop Sim Noy. Kayaking ends at the confluence of the Nam Ha and Nam Tha Rivers, from where a pick-up takes us for the return to Luang Namtha. The optional return by river is in a traditional motor boat operated by area villagers.

Approximately: 20 minutes transfer/ 5 hours kayaking or rafting

Note:
• Return by boat may not be possible from March- June and a return by pick-up may not be possible July – September.
• Nam Tha is best for rafting from July to November, for kayaking all year round

Each trip is a bit different but all trips benefit the local economy and contribute to protecting the environment. The guides, drivers, the food and most of the villagers benefit from your presence. Most notably you’ll see that every village we visit not only receives some of the money that you paid for the tour, they also are active business partners in the tour. We also pay $2 per day per person to the National Protected Area and set aside 10% of the above expenses for training of guides, villagers and development of more community-based tourism programs.
