This one day tour into the Nam Ha NPA (National Protected Area) winds through forest and upland fields. This tour has broad open vistas of the area’s mountains and the Luang Namtha Valley. Along the way we may encounter villagers collecting forest products, tending livestock or working their upland fields. Before returning to the valley, the tour visits an Akha village on top of the hills. The tour also includes an optional stop at That Poum Pouk, Luang Namtha’s ancient and newest stupa.

Itinerary: Luang Namtha - That Poum Pouk - Ban Nam Yang - Luang Namtha
The tour starts at The Boat Landing or Green Discovery Office. The road winds through forest and upland fields into the Nam Ha NPA. Along the way you may encounter villagers collecting forest products, tending livestock or working their upland fields. Before returning to the valley, we visit an Akha village at the highest point. Lunch will be prepared at the village.

After lunch, we start our journey back to Luang Namtha. On the return, we stop at That Poum Pouk (optional), Luang Namtha’s ancient and newest Stupa.

It is for that reason that we take extra effort to ensure that benefits from our trips are distributed broadly. Each trip is a bit different but all trips benefit the local economy and contribute to protecting the environment. The guides, drivers, the food and most of the villagers benefit from your presence. Most notably you’ll see that every village we visit not only receives some of the money that you paid for the tour, they also are active business partners in the tour. We also pay $2 per day per person to the National Protected Area and set aside 10% of the above expenses for training of guides, villagers and development of more community-based tourism programs.
