We depart from Green Discovery Laos. We first cycle toward south of Luang Prabang, on the way to Xayabouly. It takes around 2 hours on paved road and 1 hour on dirt road. We then make a stop for lunch. We continue our off road ride. The ride will be gradually up hill through a forest and go deeper to a jungle. Time for a rest nearby a waterfall! Afterward, we cycle through beautiful landscape before arriving to Ban Huaypheng (Khmu hill tribe) for the night. We will have a chance to attend a Baci ceremony with the villagers.
Approximately: 1 hour tranfer/6 hours cycling
After breakfast, we follow the path in the valley of the Khmu village. A nice walk leads us through the rice field and scenic landscape. We see a hug pond, a special spot for local people around the area, why?
In the dry season, the land is covered by trees that are called second forest and special and high limestone mountain. In the wet season, no one knows where the water comes from to flood the whole area. The high limestone mountain also disappears in the water. In the dry season we take a walk and in the wet season we take a bamboo raft.
We break for lunch and then continue the trek through the second forest to Hmong Camp in the valley before arriving to Ban Long Lao, another Hmong village for the overnight. We will attend Baci ceremony with villagers.
Approximately: 5 hours trekking /1 hour caving
After breakfast, from this rural setting, the trail leads thru rice fields and vegetable gardens before reaching the forested mountains with some steeper parts. A cave is explored on the way, which during the Second Indochina War, used as a bomb shelter for the villagers living in this valley.
One more hour of trekking takes you to the crystal clear water of just one of the springs that feed the Kuang Xi waterfall: a beautiful pool full of big sacred fish. After descending from the top of the waterfall, a Lao-style lunch is served around lush setting.
The afternoon is spent bathing and relaxing by the turquoise pools below. Make sure, you visit Phet, the orphaned tiger, and a young bear living just by the entrance gate. Before returning to Luang Prabang, we take a walk around nearby Ban Thapene, a Khmu village that lies around some of the most beautiful waterfalls.
Approximately: 3 ½ hours trekking/ 2 hours at the water fall
