Depart from Luang Prabang, we drive uphill for about 1½ hours towards the north of Luang Prabang to the trekking starting point. At Ban Pak Chaek, we cross the Nam Ou River with a fishing boat, then walk past Pak Chaek, a Lao Leu village. We trek inside the beautiful valley and pass rice fields before reaching the Khmu villages Ban Houay Thuom and Ban Yha Nang. Here we stay for the night.
Approximately: 1½ hour transfer/ 5 hours trekking.
After breakfast, we walk past an area where Hmong people are paning gold and see the Pha Pon Golden Mountain. We trek to the top of the mountain that offers a great view and stop for a local picnic lunch. We continue the trek from Pha Pon area to Ban Hat Houay of the Khmu ethnic minority. From here, we return to Luang Prabang.
Approximately: 1 hour transfer/ 6 hours trekking.
